Welcome from the Head of Teaching School
The Alliance for Learning Teaching School is a partnership of primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities and organisations from across the North-West, who share their knowledge, skills, expertise and experience to achieve a common goal of continuous educational improvement.
Altrincham Grammar School for Girls is the lead school of the Alliance and St Bede Primary Academy in Bolton is a Teaching School within the Alliance for Learning.
The Alliance for Learning lead the way in ground-breaking research and development, innovative approaches to school to school support, meaningful professional development for teachers and cutting-edge initial teacher training with the Greater Manchester Bright Futures SCITT (GM BFET SCITT).
The GM BFET SCITT delivers school-based, early years, primary and secondary, initial teacher training across our 61 schools, colleges and universities. Led by two outstanding schools; Altrincham Grammar School for Girls and St.Bede Primary Academy our courses lead to the award of Post Graduate Early Teachers Teacher Status (EYTS), Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE), accredited by the University of Manchester.
We also have a Maths Hub as part of our remit. NW1 Maths Hub, is one of 4 local and 35 national Maths Hubs who form part of the Maths Hub Programme, a programme funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and coordinated by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) to improve the quality of mathematical teaching and learning for our children. NW1 offer a wide range of high quality professional development opportunities and are involved in a plethora of maths projects which draw upon the latest teaching strategies from around the world to ensure that the UK has the teaching styles required to compete on the global stage.
We have a high profile and a national outstanding reputation for quality. Our NLE Dame Dana Ross-Wawrzynski is on the OFQUAL Board, Gary Handforth our LLE is leading Challenge Partner work and the LLE Pilot, Lisa Fathers our Head of Teaching School is on the Youth Sport Direct Board and is a Youth Sport Trust Ambassador Headteacher nationally. Lisa is also leading the Teaching and Learning Support in Blackpool Challenge to improve outcomes for children in one of the most deprived areas in Britain.
In order to carry out work of the highest calibre, we have a fantastic range of nationally recognised organisations with whom we work. These include Future Leaders, Teaching Leaders, Challenge Partners, The Prince’s Teaching Institute and the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching (NCETM).
The Alliance for Learning is also a member of the GM LLE Collaborative which is a partnership of 8 Teaching Schools based across Greater Manchester. The purpose of the Collaborative is work together to train, develop and support aspirant and existing Local Leaders of Education building a community of best practice, ensuring the best possible system led support for schools is available.
