On the 4th March 2020, Christ Church Primary School and Lewis Street Primary School in Salford will receive the prestigious National Nurturing Schools Award in a presentation attended by the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham. This accolade is awarded to schools who demonstrate exemplary practice in embedding a nurturing culture throughout their school, enhancing teaching and learning by focusing on emotional needs and development in a whole-school environment.
The award is given to schools who complete the two-year National Nurturing Schools Programme with nurtureuk which helps schools to take the principles that have supported ‘nurture groups’, which are used in many schools to remove barriers to learning for children, and apply these principles across their whole-school to support every single child.
Wendy McCormack, Executive Headteacher of both Christ Church and Lewis Street Primary Schools said:
Receiving this award demonstrates the high quality nurture provision within our schools. It is testament to the hard-work and commitment of the school, it’s staff and partners, working together to support the emotional development, well-being and behaviour of all our pupils. By doing this we aim to ensure they achieve their potential, develop resilience and capacity to deal more confidently with what life may bring.
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “Here in Greater Manchester we want to ensure that everyone has opportunities to succeed, and that means creating a supportive environment and helping to remove any barriers that stand in the way.
“These schools are doing a fantastic job in supporting our young people by embedding a nurturing culture that supports learning and development. This is a well-deserved award, and I want to say a big well done to the staff at Christ Church and Lewis Street Primary Schools.”
I’ve added it to the press release that will go out to local press ahead of the event and am just waiting on a quote from yourself to add to it. I’ve been in contact w/ the Salford City newsdesk about organising getting press along also.
Chief Executive of nurtureuk, Kevin Kibble, said:
“We are really delighted to award Christ Church Primary School and Lewis Street Primary School with National Nurturing Schools Awards in recognition of the outstanding and inspirational work of their whole staff team in embedding nurturing principles throughout their schools.
“The children attending the schools, their families and the wider community benefit from their hard work. Our standards to achieve this award are exacting and many congratulations are due to the staff, pupils and everyone associated with both schools.
“We look forward to working with many more schools to help them to embed principles to support the emotional and behavioural needs of their pupils and to help more schools across Greater Manchester and beyond to achieve this prestigious award.”
