Developing the Role of English as an Additional Language (EAL) Lead

This course will explore the roles and responsibilities of the EAL Lead within school. We will explore this role and leadership of this area and its impact on teaching and learning. We will look at how EAL should impact on curriculum development and whole school policies such as developing vocabulary. Finally, we will consider ways to develop effective partnerships with parents, carers and the wider community.


This course aims to:

  • Develop a better understanding of the role of the EAL lead
  • Consider the inclusiveness of the curriculum and how it supports vocabulary development
  • Prioritise key areas specific to your school (through discussion time)
  • Develop a whole school approach to EAL provision
  • Look at sample policies and how they should be implemented
  • Create a take away action plan that can be implemented, in part or as a whole, in to your school
