Letters, Sounds and the New National Curriculum (Phonics)
This course is useful for student teachers, teachers and teaching assistants new to the EYFS and KS1. It is also useful as a refresher course for existing EYFS and Key Stage One staff and support staff in KS2.
This course links with Phases 1 to 5 of the Letters and Sounds phonics teaching programme.
It is intended to increase practitioners’ own knowledge and understanding of phonics and the English spelling system. In addition, it will offer guidance on how to teach phonics and early reading and assess pupils’ phonological awareness. This course identifies the links between the Letters and Sounds and other popular phonics programmes and the spelling requirements of the National Curriculum.
