How to Work Effectively with Governors and Get the Most Out of Them

This half-day course is aimed at Headteachers and members of the senior leadership team.  The course looks at the role of the governing body – DfE and Ofsted’s expectations and how school leaders can support effective governance and why it’s important that they do, including:

  • What information school leaders should provide for their governors
  • School leaders’ role in governor recruitment and training
  • What effective governor “challenge” is and how school leaders can support this
  • Succession planning and self-evaluation

Ruth Agnew has experience as a governor, committee chair, vice chair, chair and interim executive board (IEB) member and chair across the primary, secondary and special sectors in eight schools and academies over the last 15 years.  Ruth is currently chair of the local governing body of a primary academy and governor in a maintained secondary school and a maintained special school.
