National Professional Qualification For Senior Leadership (NPQSL)

Leading Impact is a senior leadership development programme designed by Ambition School Leadership to run in parallel with NPQSL, the National College for Teaching and Leadership accredited National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership.

The programme is aimed at current or aspiring senior leaders who are looking to improve their practice and develop on their journey to senior leadership.

Programme structure

Ambition School Leadership have drawn upon their experience of training leaders for challenging schools to develop a stimulating and engaging programme. They are the only NPQSL provider which focuses on closing the achievement gap.

The sessions consist of:

  • Seven full-day workshops (compulsory attendance)
  • Associate Future Leader (AFL) status while active on Leading Impact, giving access to discounted rates on further development opportunities3
  • 360° feedback report
  • Support to carry out an in-school Impact Initiative
  •  Provision of printed materials and resources for the workshops
  •  Day-to-day customer service
  •  On-going support towards the qualification (where required)
  •  QA of delivery
  •  Management of trainee registration
  •  Assessment for qualification is measured against the National College competencies, the impact delivered in school, and the completion of course elements.

Once the course is complete, trainees will apply to the assessing body EMLC to submit their work. Successful assessment will result in the National College accredited NPQSL qualification.


  • On the day trainee satisfaction scores last year averaged 9.15 (out of 10);
  • A survey last year of trainees who had been promoted since starting Leading Impact revealed that 95% agreed attendance at LI had contributed to their readiness for promotion;
  • A survey of Headteachers last year revealed 82% would use Ambition School Leadership again for Leading Impact NPQSL delivery;
  • Achieving significant improvements in levels of progress in English and Maths across year 7
  • Increasing number of GSCE A*/A grades from 33% to 40.5%
  • Increasing number of GCSE A*-C incl E&M from 39% to 49%
  • Achieving a significant reduction in behaviour points, and improvement in A2L averaging 0.1957 across Yr 10
  • Increasing the number of good or outstanding lessons in maths (primary) from 75% to 94%
  • Improved T&L through lesson obs from 32% good or outstanding to 76%
