Level 3 Maths Lead and Co-ordination Group Briefing

Task/Role description Level 3 Maths work:

Level 3 Maths Lead

  1. A key aspect of the Level 3 Maths Lead role is that it enables Maths Hubs to broaden their operational leadership and management, particularly in the area of Level 3 Maths. As with the Teaching for Mastery Lead role, it is a way of strengthening the capacity of the Maths Hub leadership team.
  2. The role of the Level 3 Maths Lead is to lead the Maths Hub’s Level 3 Mathematics work by:
  • liaising and communicating with key partners in the Hub area, including the FMSP AC, the CMSP CML, and leaders of good Level 3 Maths practice in schools and colleges
  • leading a Level 3 Mathematics Co-ordination Group to ensure a strategic approach to the prioritisation and selection of Level 3 Mathematics Work Groups according to local need linked to the five shared goals (might meet once a term)
  • working as part of the Maths Hub Leadership and Management team (which might include presenting to the Strategic Board)
  • supporting and overseeing the Hub’s Level 3 Mathematics Work Group leaders
  • collaborating with other Level 3 Maths Leads across the Maths Hub network
    1. The time allocation for the Level 3 Maths Lead is likely to be a minimum of 18 days/year but this can be determined locally. There will be £10,000 to support the work of the Level 3 Maths Lead and Level 3 Maths Work Groups in 2017-18. Part of this £10K is allocated to support the Level 3 Maths Lead, again determined locally. The remainder of the £10K is allocated to at least one Level 3 Mathematics Work Group. Other Level 3 Mathematics Work Groups can be funded from the £80K allocated to local designed Work Groups.

Maths Hub Level 3 Maths Lead – Information and Application

Supporting the development of Level 3 Maths continues to be a priority for the Maths Hubs programme. Work is underway to strengthen co-ordination between FMSP, CMSP and Maths Hubs in this area.
