Embedding A Level Technology
National support for the effective embedding of technology in the teaching of A Level Mathematics and/or Further Mathematics to enhance teaching and conceptual understanding of students. Direct working partnership between the Maths Hubs network and the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP).
In the new A Level Mathematics specification teachers are challenged to ensure that the use of technology permeates their teaching. In this course we will address both the technical aspect of how to use technology (the calculator, graphing packages, spreadsheets, data sets etc.) as well as considering pedagogy. We will look at the common content of the new specifications and consider which aspects would be enhanced by the use of technology. As part of day 1, participants will be asked to plan and then deliver a lesson informed by this work. They will be required to feedback on the lesson to their colleagues on day 2.
Following the course, the NW1 Maths Hub intends to offer support for a network group to enable course participants and other interested parties to continue to work on the ideas explored in this course and to further develop resources and ideas for best practice in this area.
This course will support those who are teaching the new specification for A Level Maths. Teachers of A Level Statistics and Core Maths may also find this course useful. It is advised that institutions send two teachers where possible to promote and support on going learning within their teams.
