Local Projects

As well as work on National Projects, Maths Hubs are pursuing projects addressing other programme priorities, the mix of which differs from hub to hub.  Here are the local projects that we are working on:

SLE & PD Lead Development Network

Providing leadership development of Maths SLEs through a partnership programme with NW1 & MMU. SLEs complete the MMU Masters unit ‘Effectiveness and Improvement in Educational Settings’ unit at an NW1 locale.

SLEs then deliver twilight training in kind to PD Leads across the region. A rolling programme of SLE to PD Lead support is to be calendared throughout the year highlighting cutting edge practice and area need.

Multiplicative Reasoning

Proportional reasoning, problem solving and lesson study cycle utilised as an action research method. Developing collaborative practice in schools using lesson study.

Singapore Development Network

Proportional reasoning, problem solving and lesson study cycle utilised as an action research method. Developing collaborative practice in schools using lesson study.

KS3&4 Curriculum Development Network

Cross secondary work group established to co-ordinate the move to the new GCSE specification and inherent training needs associated with it. Writing groups to move from specification specifics schemes to a mastery-spiral 5 year approach.

PD Lead Provision

Delivery of NCETM PD Lead Primary and Secondary programmes. 4 x experience facilitators to deliver and assess. Access to NW1 PD Lead Support network will be provided upon successful completion.

Teacher Subject Specialism Training

Through the DfE Teacher Subject Specialism Training NW1 to support AGGS and CHHS in their subject and pedagogic development of non-specialist maths teachers.

Lesson Study Group

Developing Lesson Study approaches in the context of developing teaching for problem solving.

North West Maths Conference

NW1, NW2 and NW3 working in collaboration to host a conference aimed at all phases in maths education showcasing the best practice in the region and the work of the hubs. 200 schools in attendance with all tickets sold out. This is the first of many to come!
